Welcome to JOJ Kassie! You don’t have to be overweight to slim down a bit. You can drink as much water as you like. Water helps speed up the effects and it keeps your system hydrated. This can be done a number of ways, such as by sprinkling some freshly ground flax or pumpkin seed over the juice, adding a bit of coconut, having a slice of avocado or enjoying peanut butter on a celery stalk.

The consumption of lycopene, contained most plentifully in watermelon at its peak ripeness, has been demonstrated to increase bone health. The amino acid citrulline in watermelon converts to another amino acid – arginine – in our kidneys and other organs, and in preliminary laboratory studies has been shown to assist the cardiovascular system, and possibly help lower body fat.

Fiber is an essential part of a healthy diet. Eating enough of it is important for optimal digestion because it keeps the beneficial bacteria in your gut healthy and may reduce constipation for some people (21).

I went out last night to get all the ingredients to make this. It is so delicious and refreshing! I don’t have a juicer, so I blended it all instead. Ashley, when you work out, you are ripping and damaging your muscles. They start to rebuild immediately when you give them the nutrients to do so. It’s helpful to add more spinach/kale/romaine to your juices directly after you work out. Have a juice right when you finish to help the process.

I am on the end of day 3 of a 30 day juice fast. Been following your recipes and tried one of my own, it isn’t going too badly. I didn’t eat at all Day 1 (I drive all day at my job, so bathroom trips are prized occurrences). Question 1: Since I didn’t eat day one, is my body still on detox day 3? Question 2: I am 5’10”, 170lbs. Can I expect to lose about 20lbs? How much do you think I will gain back after if I continue doing paleo or raw afterwards? Question 3: Are Granny Smith apples better nutritionally? I have read they are easier on the juicer, but they are also more expensive! This blog is really helping me, I appreciate this site so much!

Daniel, if you lose weight the right way, your body will adapt and your skin will adjust. Give yourself a good 14 day fast and then re-evaluate things and go from there. As far as workouts go, it’s best to let your body rest and recover during the first 3-5 days as you’ll be going through detox. Just rest, let your body heal, and then feel free to get back at your workouts. Just listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard Daniel. Keep me posted and let me know how things work out for you. I’m always here if you have questions. Cheers!

When you’re trying to lose weight, all calories count, whether you’re eating them or drinking them. To keep a limit on the calories in your fresh juice, use more vegetables than fruit. For example, 1 cup of spinach has only 7 calories, while a large apple has 116 calories. Other low-calorie vegetables that make tasty juices include carrots, cucumbers, kale and tomatoes. For a touch of sweetness with fewer calories, add a lemon or lime to your vegetable juice. Ginger also adds flavor without many calories.

I have been hearing a lot about juicing, and the great things is does when it comes to weight loss. Tiffany, you can have your juice as early as you like and then workout within the hour. Another thing you can do is have 8 ounces of water and lemon, and then 8-12 ounces of juice. I usually have my water and lemon right when I wake up. After that I go about my morning, take a shower, get dressed, etc. and then have my morning juice.

Hi there, i know it’s recommended to drink 4-6 juices a day, but i was wondering how you recommend to space them out? With 3 juices it’s easy to say breakfast, lunch and dinner, but when would be a good time for the other juices? I realize that it is up to my body’s signals to tell when i need juice, but recognizing those signals is a really tough thing for me, and I’m sure it gets easier with time; but for now would you be able to give me a rough estimate of a good plan for drinking juices?

I have to disagree here Antony, our bodies were not biologically engineered for thousands of years to eat processed foods, fast foods, and all the other garbage we as a human race eat. Just look at all the food related illness out there and how many people suffer from diabetes or obesity. Our bodies weren’t meant to eat in the capacity and rate that we feed it today.

  1. In order to lose weight and to stay motivated, life needs to be fun, right? Juicing is the ideal way to bring this into your life. As you start to get into juicing, you will find it great fun making new combinations of fruit and vegetables cocktails. You will make all kinds of unique and interesting drinks, and you will find that you never get bored from the endless variety of beverages that you can make for yourself and others. You will also want to share these drinks with others, which will also mean getting encouragement and support from those around you as you continue your weight-loss goals. Support is super important when it comes to making, and sticking to, healthy changes in your life.
It’s more like since I have TMJ, I need to “chew” on something or else I have the possibility of having problems with my jaw from not using it. But I acutally found something that replaces the chewing motion, so I don’t need to eat something to chew. Thanks so much!!
Wow Carrie that’s great! keep it up. The hardest part of any weight loss journey is actually keeping it off but once you’ve built momentum you have to sustain it. In a word, no. Juice will not cleanse your body. There is no scientific evidence showing that ingredients in juices help to eliminate toxins.  In fact, your body is well-equipped with its own detoxing systems (including the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems).  To keep your organs functioning at peak performance, a balanced diet consisting of minimally-processed, nutrient-dense foods is needed. The body cannot survive on the nutrients in fruits and vegetables (or their juice) alone.  Therefore, a juicing cleanse may actually be preventing the body from functioning optimally. In addition, healthy adults have no reason to give the gut a rest from fiber intake.  In fact, for optimal intestinal function and overall health, it is best to consume nutrient-dense, fiber-rich foods every day.
