Carmen, it’s okay to freeze your produce and thaw it out before juicing. I know a lot of things will spoil soon so this will be your best option if you can only shop at the beginning of the month. I wish you all the best! Let me know if you have any questions.
What you eat plays a huge role in your weight. Neil Martin said that “you cannot outrun your fork” which I found true because no matter how much you exercise, if you eat a diet rich in carbohydrates and a lot of junk food you’ll have a hard time shedding pounds.
Convenience – Modern busy lifestyles cause us to make many poor diet decisions because of the convenience of fast food. Juicing takes just a few minutes and gives you fresh, delicious, healthy juice that satisfies you. This means you eat less junk food.
as usual a great and in-depth article about juicing for weight loss. I love some of the recipes in your list. I’ve just to experiment with juicing + adding protein powder to the mix as this helps with my weight lifting regimen.
For me, a tough part of the Reboot was that I did it in the winter. I think a summer Reboot would be easier – who doesn’t love to drink lots of healthy cold juices on a hot day! Also, managing to say ‘no’ to foods that were outside of my Reboot was tricky, particularly at work, especially when people challenged what I was doing. I found, and still do find it easier to say ‘no’ to everything that is not part of my new lifestyle, rather than saying ‘yes’ to some things, as I know it would be easy to fall into old habits otherwise. Lastly, trying to do too many different juices was tricky. I decided to stick to just a few ‘favourites’ so that food didn’t go to waste, and I could organise my fridge and do my shopping more efficiently.
Generally speaking, vegetables are much better for you than fruit. Not to say that fruit is bad, but it does contain natural fructose which is a form of sugar (through a million times healthier than the high fructose corn syrup you’ll find in many soda drinks these days).
I have been juicing for 8 weeks now. I did the 7lbs in 7 days to start and lost 11lbs and have continued with the turbo boost for the rest of the time. I have so far lost 30lbs and people tell me I look 10 years younger and I feel amazing! This has truly changed my life and approach to eating. Many thanks!
I don’t know the details of your personal situation, but juicing really does help a lot of people lose weight when used as a fast or to replace meals/snacks. My advice would be to try replacing a meal or snack with juice (if you haven’t tried that already). I’m assuming your juicing along with your regular food, which is great, but could be the reason why.
Let’s get real for a second here. Our liver does a lot for our bodies. While it might seem that we’ve drawn a lot of attention to this little organ in our article, it’s because it not only helps you to metabolize a range of substances – but also assists in keeping you slim too.
Lanie, congrats on your first day of juicing! The caffeine withdraw can be hard. Try have an occasional tea and see if it helps. As far as the psychological aspect of chewing I understand completely what you’re going through. Try some sugar free gum, after a juice. It used to help me get over the fact I wasn’t chewing something while taking in nutrients. Also, try some of the frozen juice recipes I have in the recipe section. Those are fantastic and all 100% juice!
First off..love this blog! It’s so informative! I was just diagnosed with PCOS and started medication that has caused me to break out terribly and just leaves me feeling bleh. I want to try juicing to cleanse and of course lose weight (what woman doesn’t want that)I don’t have a juicer and don’t want to break the bank (hello..college student) Is there a way to use a blender or even a magic bullet instead of buying a really expensive juicer and still get good cleansing/weight loss results?
Thanks for the reply, Linda…one more question…can I use this as a “dinner” drink? I work late and hate to cook and eat a meal that late in the evening. Once I get home, I have yard work or housework to do. I thought about juicing and having that before I do my evening chores. What do you think?
I’m on my 10th day of juicing using green apples, pears, cucumber, kale, spinach, celery, and ginger. I drink ,1 8oz glass for breakfast and 1 8oz glass for lunch followed by water throughout the day. In the evening I would eat a sensible dinner. I have not lost any weight so far. Why?
Laura, don’t set yourself a time frame, set yourself a weight goal and juice until you get there. Remember, you will continue to lose weight after the fast as long as you stick to healthy eating choices. Give yourself two weeks and then decide if you want to continue or start to include solids for a while. If you want to lose 50 pounds it may take a month or two depending on how much you currently weigh. Just keep in mind you will continue to lose weight after your fast, just eat healthy! Cheers!
Tammy, you are very welcome! Congrats on your success and your health! 15 pounds is a great accomplishment and you should be real proud of yourself. I’ll be here if you have any questions Tammy. How long are you going to juice for and what are your goals?
Get ready for those sudden urges. “Liquids pass through the digestive tract much more quickly than solid foods,” explains A. Shapiro. “You may find yourself running to the bathroom much more often when you’re on a juice cleanse, even though you’re consuming so much less than usual.”
Ashley, when you work out, you are ripping and damaging your muscles. They start to rebuild immediately when you give them the nutrients to do so. It’s helpful to add more spinach/kale/romaine to your juices directly after you work out. Have a juice right when you finish to help the process.
I prepped juices yesterday for 2 days. I love the V8 juice I made without all the sodium. Tastes fresh. I’m doing this for weight loss and just to be healthier. I”d ultimately like to do a 15 day or 60 day juice cleanse to restart everything. Do you think adding protein powder is an okay thing to do? I worry about lack of protein…
