Stuart, I had very high blood pressure and was on medication before I started. My blood pressure was normalized within three days of the fast. Don’t stop taking your medicine though. You may want to schedule a check up with your doctor or monitor your pressure daily in intervals so you can get an idea of how your blood pressure is on and off the meds while you are juicing.
Hi Heidi, welcome to JOJ! There’s no need to add protein powder, you’ll get plenty of protein through your juices. Read this article for more information on protein and juice fasting: http://www.justonjuice.com/how-do-i-get-protein-during-a-juice-fast/
Once you stop eating enough food to meet your basic energy requirements, your metabolism will slow. For most people, that threshold of calorie intake is around 1,200 calories per day. “Your body goes into conservation mode because it doesn’t know when its next meal is going to be,” says nutritionist Ilyse Schapiro MS, RD, CDN, and founder of ilyseschapironutrition.com. She reminds us that, even though cutting calories will lead to weight loss, going too low for too long can have the opposite effect. It’s one of the biggest takeaways on the list of 25 Things You’re Doing to Slow Your Metabolism!

Adding fat isn’t essential, but it helps your body absorb fat soluble vitamins and phytonutrients, and provides sustained fullness instead of a glucose spike and crash. Add a quarter or half of an avocado, some ground nuts or seeds, olive oil, or coconut oil to any juice to supply healthy fats. Protein has a similar satiation effect and has been shown to support weight loss, so consider adding some protein powder, nuts, or tofu to your juice.
Juicing enables you to take in a lot more vegetables and fruit (Although you have to be careful of taking excessive fruit in your diet plan) than you would typically do on a regular diet. It also helps to reduce hunger pangs and is loaded with potassium, folic acid, magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorus and essential amino acids.
Hi Donnie,,,,, I really don’t like many fruits and vegetable,,,,,was wondering if oranges, lime and pinaapple will work fast for me,,,,,, or is the sugar content going to get in the way? And how many glasses of juice is one suppose to consume in a day? Thanks
I typically go through 4-6 juices that are each between 16-20 ounces in size. It’s best not to set any certain times to juice, but rather just have a juice when you are hungry. Hunger is your body telling you that you need more nutrients. Cravings are different and not to be confused with hunger. If you have any questions just let me know. I’ll be here. Enjoy your juice!
Hi I just started the 7 day juice fast. So far I have lost 4kg. I want to continue 5 days and stop as it will be my daughters birthday. Would that be ok? And then just start back up after. And can I just stick to the recipes on the 7 day juice. Or where can I find more recipes? Sorry for all the questions and thanx in advance

Hi Donnie. I have been thinking about juicing for weight loss but from reading some negative sites, I changed my mind…until NOW. I have about 60 lbs to lose after gaining from a medication. Thank you for all the info you provided and I’m excited to get started soon.

Hey donnie i am doing a three month weight loss program at my work and want to lose 30lbs not only for the challenge but for my own personal gain to become slimmer and healthier. My question is that if i start my two weeks of juicing now will i potentially gain the weight back by the time the three months are up or do u recommend waiting till the last two weeks of the challenge? I appreciate the time you take to answer my question and the website u have provided!
Great advice, thanks. I am on day two of my 30 day adventure or maybe 60 days depending on the results. I am 72 in. Tall starting at 255 lbs at about 20% body fat. I am in the military so I’m am getting really close to busting tape (going over my allotted bmi) my question is, what extra precautions should I use to avoid losing too much muscle as well as have sufficient energy for my rigorous pt every morning is adding some kind of protein allowed? At the same time I want to lose about 40-50 lbs during the next 60 days, with my current fast and exercise is that a plausible goal?

With celebrities such as Salma Hayek, Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly losing weight while feeling great by juicing, you might be tempted to join in. After all, stoically drinking green juices morning, noon and night seems to demonstrate a dedication to weight loss not achieved by trimming calories alone. Juicing for weight loss can backfire, however — leaving you hungry, nutritionally deficient and fatter in the long run. Juice wisely, and it can be a weight-loss ally.
Proponents of juicing like to say that juice is more nutritious than simply consuming fruits and vegetables. But does that argument really hold up? To compare the nutrition of whole fruits and vegetables to juice, it is important to compare apples to apples (no pun intended). For accuracy, this means that one must compare them based on equal portions of weight (in grams), which is what we’ve done in the chart below. If using a juicer or blender that retains the pulp, the end result will be similar to the whole fruit. This chart is a comparison of whole fruit vs juice that does not retain the pulp.

Years ago I did Weight Watchers and it taught me that my portions were WAY too So if I had continued eating the way I was, and added juicing, I probably would have gained weight. So while juicing doesn’t have fat, it does have calories and any time we exceed calories in over calories out we will gain.
I prepped juices yesterday for 2 days. I love the V8 juice I made without all the sodium. Tastes fresh. I’m doing this for weight loss and just to be healthier. I”d ultimately like to do a 15 day or 60 day juice cleanse to restart everything. Do you think adding protein powder is an okay thing to do? I worry about lack of protein…
A few days of drinking fruit juice might make you feel like a garbage human, but it likely won’t have any long-term consequences for your blood-sugar levels, Buse said. (Again, that’s assuming you’re healthy to begin with.)
This bright orange juice is full of equally bright flavors and powerful nutrients. Carrots are high in carotenoids – a type of antioxidant – and fiber. Oranges are a good source of vitamin C, which helps protect the body from free radical damage. Ginger has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory qualities, plus it’s great for digestion.
Try changing up all of your juices. I just posted a good plan on the forums at http://www.justonjuice.com/forum/justonjuice-forum-group1/group-juice-fasts-forum3/new-3-day-group-juice-fast-starting-monday-july-15th-thread94/
Juice all the ingredients. If you have a Philips whole-fruit juicer, all you need to do is place one whole apple in the chute followed by all the other ingredients, finishing off with the other apple.
Prepare sample juices. Before purchasing a large quantity of fruits and veggies, try making a few small servings of different blends of juices. This will prevent you from wasting items you may not enjoy as a juice.
Now we get to the good stuff! Here are some of my favorite juice recipes with ingredients from the cruciferous vegetables list. Remember that these veggies can be quite potent, so always dilute the juice with a variety of other produce. If you have any ailment (particularly a thyroid, kidney or gallbladder problem) speak to your doctor first, before getting into juicing. The same applies if you are pregnant, are planning a pregnancy or want to give the juice to very young children.
Hi, instead of juicing, could this be run through a vitamix? I get freaked out about too much orange juice…good food/bad food programming, I know. But the using the whole orange makes me feel better about it. Thoughts??
The second is masticating juicers which are much more effective when juicing highly nutritious greens like spinach, kale, etc. It also produces the highest quality and quantity of juices than centrifugal juicers.
The juicing process eliminates fiber from fruits and vegetables. These sources are also naturally low in protein. Therefore, juice diets may not fill you up and, for that reason, they can be difficult to sustain.
The first 3 days I juiced, I felt nasty with headaches. In fact, as soon as I had my first juice they started. The juice I made tasted gross. My apples were tiny which I didn’t realize being new at this. Each of the first three days I was starved and had to eat. As soon as I ate the headaches went away. Now I’ve been juicing for over a month, make better tasting juice, but I eat so I’m not fasting. I’m thinking of fasting but I was starving. I juiced four times a day. Now I juice 2-3 but I eat. I drank tons of clean water. I have to cook for my husband which doesn’t help the starvation. What can I do so I don’t feel nasty and starved?
Ok, I took the orange out of the juice and my acid has been greatly reduced. U were correct, it was the orange! Since I had been juicing for a week and had built up so much acid, I felt sick so I went ahead and went off the juice for a couple days and am getting ready to get back on track. I tasted the juice I was originally doing (celery, cucumber, spinach, apple, orange, carrot, lemon), but without the orange, it did not taste nearly as good. This is my next question- I really want to lose weight immediately, this is a huge priority. What is the best recipe to use for me to kick start this weight loss and have great results? I will not b using any oranges. Thanks so much!!!
Gale, the sugars found in the juice that Linda has graciously provided the recipe for are all natural and because of the glycemic index rating of these fruits, (grapefruit juice (fresh)=48; orange juice (fresh)=46) they shouldn’t affect blood sugar levels much. The glycemic index is a measure of how quickly the carbohydrates found in food provides the body with energy. If you are on medication, though, you might want to check out the possible affect of grapefruit on that medication. I would also suggest you read a book entitled, “Wheat Belly” written by William Davis, MD (ISBN 978-1-44341-273-5). It was a HUGE eye opener for me when it comes to diabetes, obesity and a number of other conditions. I hope this helps. Good luck!
