Don’t Pitch the Pulp. You can still reap the benefits of that fiber-rich pulp by adding it to soups, stews, grain and rice dishes, pasta sauces, muffins and quick breads. Don’t let those nutrients go to waste—get creative with them in the kitchen.
This one is so interesting (but makes sense!) that it’s almost comical. “Your breath may smell bad because saliva production decreases because our bodies conserve saliva in hopes of eating food,” says I. Schapiro. “Saliva is only emitted when we consume food. When saliva production is low, bacteria builds up. Eating food can solve the problem because our salivary glands are stimulated when we chew.” When you’re ready to eat again, start with these 27 Healthiest Snacks Under $1!
Watermelon spread north to the Mediterranean and Europe with early Moors. They were carried as far east as China, which is today the largest producer of watermelon. Some have posited that watermelons were introduced to the Southern US by African slaves, but they were discovered being cultivated from the northern to southern states by Native Americans as early as the 1500’s. There is some debate today as to whether watermelons are a fruit or a vegetable!

Whole fruits are lower in carbs than their juices. Both fruits and vegetables contain carbohydrates, but fruits contain more carbs than veggies typically do. These carbs come primarily from the natural sugars contained in the produce, but are considered ”smart carbs” because they are nutrient dense and rich in fiber, which helps slow blood sugar response in the body. Yet, for people following a weight-loss program or a diet to control blood sugar levels, the carbs in fruits, vegetables, and their juices should all be monitored. When making your selections, note that fruit juices are usually higher in carbohydrates. (Learn more about making smart fruit and juice choices when you have diabetes.)
Farheen, make sure you peel the mango and they should juice just fine. You can exercise if you like just don’t push yourself too much. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and plenty of juice and the weight will go.
Juice the pineapple and apple and pour into blender or smoothie-maker with the banana, yoghurt and spirulina. Blend until smooth. If you don’t like yoghurt (dairy or otherwise), use half a small pineapple instead.
Kale, a dark-green leafy vegetable, rivals just about every other food in the produce section when it comes to nutrient density. The vast majority of kale juice benefits are believed to come from is high concentration of various essential vitamins and nutrients. One…
Today is my 4th day and up until now, everything has been going great! Ankle swelling is almost gone! Full of energy, very little hunger pangs…if I feel it, I just take a sip of my juice. On Labor day, I made some mini muffins made out of the pulp and Quinoa flour and other healthy ingredients (no sugar) for my daughter for breakfast or during the day .. and “I ok’d 1 in am & 1 in pm only IF I got hungry”. (I didn’t want to munch on anything else to derail my master plan!) I’m keeping a journal of my progress and this time, my favorite and daily juice combo consists of: beet, carrot, GS apple, lots of ginger, kale, spinach, broccoli, parsley, mint, collard greens, lemon and key lime! OK, so true confession….I never had the nerve to try a totally green drink (they looked so yucky…algae-ish!)… but last night, I got the nerve and decided that no matter what, I was going to drink it all….turns out I loved it! (Only green veggies and green apple, lemon and ginger – great combo!!)This is funny, but I made this drink and sipped it while making 6 dozen brownies for the XC team’s dinner….and didn’t even want a taste! I’m sort of sad though….I loved black coffee with ½ pkt of Stevia (quit aspartame at the beginning of the year)…now, not only do I not need the caffeine kick (I’m full of energy), but just taking a sip doesn’t even taste good! I’m not sad though because I replaced it with1 cup of ‘Zen’ green tea – (“Zen” what a better tea for the moment?…I know…it probably has caffeine and I’ll replace it by the weekend if I can find that awesome decaf green tea from Tibet…but I’m not trying to deprive my system, I’m trying to stay with the plan and feel great about choices ….cause I have to remember that this is going to be a long road, but it’s MY journey now!)

Ali, I juice on and off every few weeks. I haven’t organized any group fasts in a while but there are plenty of people on the forums currently juicing and starting their own fasts. My goal with the forums was to draw people together and give people a means to find other juicers to juice with. Starting the group fasts was a great way to do that and I’m happy that people are starting their own groups with their own fasts. I will be starting a few group juice fasts up before the end of the year though.
Juicing advocates sometimes refer to the innumerable combinations of fruit and vegetable juices as “vitamin and mineral cocktails.” Unlike a blender, which you use to combine whole pieces of produce with juice or water, a juicer extracts the water, vitamin and mineral content from fruits and vegetables, leaving the roughage behind. While juicing on a regular basis can help you meet your body’s nutritional requirements and promote weight loss, it might not be the sustainable lifestyle change you need for long-term success.
This juicer produces juice in two steps, using one or two gears. First, it crushes the fruits and veggies, and then it presses out the juice. These types of juicers take longer to produce juice, and they tend to be more expensive than most centrifugal juicers. However, they are said to extract more nutrients from the produce. They yield a thick juice with more pulp, yet still produce some pulp extract in a separate compartment.
Antanisha, when I fast I go strictly juice. When I come off of my fast I’ll start to include solids. I didn’t exercise at all on my first fast but if you hit a plateau with your weight loss, exercise is good way to keep losing the weight. Again,

Write up a meal plan. After researching a variety of juicing diets, you may realize there are a variety of options to choose from. If you’re not following a specific plan, it may be helpful to write up your own meal plan to ensure you’re maintaining a well-balanced and healthy diet.
Tammy, thank you for your awesome comment. I do my best to help. I’m glad juicing has had a positive effect on you. It does so much more than help us to lose weight. Just keep doing what your doing Tammy, it’s working!
I have struggled with my weight all my life. At 29, I’ve had 3 kids and my weight rose to 250 lbs.!! I watched 2 documentaries one day while on Netflix…Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead and Vegucated. That’s all it took. I immediately bought a juicer and went vegan. Within 1 month, I dropped 30 pounds and in 1 year, I lost a total of 90 pounds! It sounds cliche but the fat literally melted off!!! I always stuck to the same recipe. 2 apples, 1 orange, 2 large carrots, 4 kale leaves and 2 large handfuls of spinach. As for my vegan diet,it was hard and more expensive but well worth it. I could almost guarantee that this would help anyone get on the right track with their weight, especially if they normally consume a lot of junk like fried food, sweets and soda. When we go back to how our bodies are meant to be fed, we naturally shrink to the size we are meant to be. I’m not saying we are meant to be vegan, because that was just a life decision for myself, but moderation in some areas and excluding other things, such as soda is a must!!
The “Morning Glory” recipe isn’t just a fantastic way to lose weight, it can also lower your cholesterol. A study conducted at the Wolfson Gastrointestinal lab in Edinburgh found that consuming seven ounces of raw carrot a day can reduce cholesterol levels by 11%.
By definition, being overweight means your liver is overworked. The liver is where fat is metabolized, but that job gets put on the back burner when it is overworked with more important tasks. So, for any weight loss plan to be successful, you also have to nourish your liver. You do that by 1.) removing toxins it has to process, such as that Sweet’N Low in your iced tea and that aspartame in your diet soda, and 2) eating nutrient dense food and lots of green leafy vegetables. Some of the foods you should eat are obvious, such as the cruciferous vegetables for liver health. Other things are less obvious, such as olive oil and nuts, both of which have more calories, but since many weight problems include an inability to digest fats, that makes up for fat cravings. By supplying your body with healthy fats, your probability of cheating on your diet goes down.
I. Schapiro warns that juice cleansers may experience confusion because limiting important nutrients like protein can lead to decreased brain function and disruptions in neurotransmitters, which rely on protein to do their job. While you won’t be as sharp because your noggin’ isn’t getting what it needs, there are also foods to know about that suck it dry, like these Foods That Drain Your Brainpower.
You need to get a juicer and make fresh juice with vegetables to get the full benefits. The goal is to eliminate toxins not accumulate them with preservatives etc found in V8 juice and store bought juices. You will miss a lot of macro-nutrients if you dont juice a variety of vegetables and fruit.
Juice isn’t calorie-free. Even if you are only consuming juice, it’s easy to take in more calories than you need to maintain your weight. “Shape” magazine notes that a pressed juice usually contains between 100 to 350 calories per 16 ounces. If you’re pressing more fruit than veggies through your juicer, the calories are likely to be in the higher range. Juicing can only help you lose weight if you stay in a calorie-intake range that’s below the number you burn in a day. For example, if you replace your typical 300-calorie whole-food breakfast with a 300-calorie cup of fresh juice, you aren’t trimming calories. Add to that a 350-calorie juice snack twice per day instead of the 160-calorie handful of almonds you ate for snacks prior to juicing and you’ve actually increased your daily calorie intake.
Buy a variety of fruits and vegetables. Another essential ingredient to following a juicing diet is to have a variety of fruits and vegetables on hand. Purchasing both fresh and frozen items will give you more flexibility and variety with your juices.
Juicings’ proponents, who include celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, claim the practice will provide you with more energy, clear skin, a body clear of toxins and a lighter frame. Juicing fresh veggies and fruits can be quite healthy, but healthy isn’t necessarily synonymous with thin. If you want to lose weight, focus on your daily caloric intake, the quality of those calories and your physical exercise. Juicing can be part of the process, but it doesn’t guarantee weight loss — and it may hinder it in some cases.

Judy has currently lost 48 pounds. “When I first started the program, I was overwhelmed. The reading, all those vegetables, what goes with what, opening the overstuffed refrigerator to see the jungle of veggies fall out all over the floor. How much to buy, what’s in each bag, where’s the bag of cilantro, where’s the bag of kale, where’s the celery… Others in the group were efficient and organized, up for the challenge of the three-day juice fast, ready to tackle the moon and back.

If you follow a weight-loss diet based on juicing, you’ll either replace all of your meals with juice blends, or you’ll eat one healthy meal per day and take in the rest of your calories in juice. As a weight-loss method, juicing is effective because fruits and vegetables are much lower in calories — while high in vitamins and minerals — than most of the foods they replace. A typical plan includes drinking an energizing juice in the morning, drinking a mid-morning “snack,” having a cocktail of vegetables for lunch followed by an energizing mid-afternoon juice, drinking another before dinner, eating a healthy evening meal and having one more juice just before bed.
