Juicing is the process of extracting the juice from fresh fruits and vegetables. A small kitchen appliance known as a juicer is used to extract the juice, and these can range in price from $50-$500. Drinking the juice of fruits and vegetables means consuming their water and much of their vitamin and mineral content; however, the pulp, or fiber, which also has many health benefits, is removed. (Note: Some high-powered juicers do retain most of the pulp in the juice, thus resulting in a thicker juice.)
This combination provides you with the essential nutrients and amino acids that help to suppress your appetite in effect reducing the feeling of hunger for a longer period and helping you to lose weight.
Follow the juicer’s instruction booklet. Most recommend to add delicate items first (like leafy greens), followed by softer items (like a banana or tomato) and add hard foods (like carrots or apples) last.
A suggested read (and affordable, as it is out of print) is How to Keep Slim, Healthy and Young with Juice Fasting by Paavo Airola. It’s a little baby book chock full of how to juice fast yourself with proven case studies, if you feel you’d like to read more about it.
So let me get this straight.. you’re saying people lose weight because they are juicing mostly fruits and veggies that don’t taste good? You’ve obviously never juiced and don’t know what you’re talking about. Weight loss occurs because you are flushing your body with a high amount of nutrition. This creates a system of low toxicity in your body and allows your body to release it’s toxins (stored in fat). The toxins leaving your body allow the nutrients to balance your system and give you the nutrition you’ve been lacking. Also, juices taste amazingly good and almost everyone who I have helped juice agrees.
After my 30 day Reboot, I did what Joe suggested, and went on to a mainly plant-based diet, although I sometimes include fish. I have gone off all grains, red meat, milk and caffeine, and have found wonderful recipes that substitute many of the old foods I used to love with healthy, plant-based, alternatives. I also try to eat raw food when I can. I continue to have a green juice for breakfast every day and am still loving it!
Hi, I have started the juice only diet today I have 2 weeks to lose a dress size and a half I will also be exercising everyday, do you think this is possible? Also I work long shifts so is it ok to take my juice and store it in a fridge? Thank you for taking time to read and answer this message.
I will keep checking back through my fast for inspiration. I am not going to lie and say it’s easy. I live with people that will not go without food so I am constantly dealing with that.:( oh well I know that it can be a struggle but I can do this I just take long walks during their dinner time.
Natalie, thank you for your report. Came at the right time for me. I m also 47 and I also have hashimoto condition… Was trying to get my mind ready for a reboot for a long time.. Even made few attempts…unseccssful…well attempts were successful but right after reboot I was going back to poor eating habits …was thinking about it this morning…the hardest thing is to start…also as you mention smaller goals are important too…your report is a sign to me…the universe is screaming and I shouldn’t ignore it…well thank you again…
Healthy fact: Carrots are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals. These can help regulate blood sugar and give improved immune function benefit. Amazingly, they can actually delay the effects of aging.
I’m on day 8 of juicing. You have to eat solids like that person said. Your body gets all it needs from the juice, including protein. I drink 6-8 mason jars of juice a day and I follow that mason jar with 16-20 oz of water. Are you consuming enough juice? After day 3 you really shouldn’t feel deprived. I have no hunger pangs . I may want food sometimes because I’m addicted, but I definitely don’t feel deprived. I would try drink more juice and going green. I’ve lost 11.5 lbs so far. Good luck!
To get the most out of this juice cleanse, slice the ginger root into smaller sections, along with the celery and beet greens. Add those ingredients to your juicer, then dice your apple, carrots, and beetroot. Blend the full mix together until smooth, and serve first thing in the morning.
It’s more like since I have TMJ, I need to “chew” on something or else I have the possibility of having problems with my jaw from not using it. But I acutally found something that replaces the chewing motion, so I don’t need to eat something to chew. Thanks so much!!
Angela, you lower your chances of weight loss when you include solids into the juice fast. If you want the best results then lose the protein shake, frozen fruits, almond milk, chia seeds and don’t snack on any nuts or raisins. This will up the amount of weight you lose big time. Let me know what happens. I’m here if you have any questions.
Ali, it’s good to go for at least 2-3 days on fresh fruits and veggies before you start your juice fast. You don’t have to go a full week. It’s just to help your body adjust to the upcoming juices. You’re going to do great Ali! Keep me posted on your success and let me know if you have any questions along the way.
As far as your thyroid production I don’t think they would have any adverse affects but it would be best to follow up with your doctor in case he/she may want to test you and change your dosage. I always recommend that people keep up to date with their doctors and let them know they are juicing when on a prescription medication. You have been juicing for 5 days and feel no bad effects from it, and you’re feeling fine and energetic so just keep doing what your doing and make an appointment with your doc. Keep me posted Bonnie, I’ll be here if you have any questions.
