I am currently on day 3 of my juice fast and i feel very weak and foggy. Is this normal? And how much weight do people lose on average during a 7 day juice fast? I’m a 20 year old male, and i weigh 170.
The type of juicer is important for how juice eventually turns out. Despite the propaganda not all juicers are the same simply because they make juice. For healthier juice that is filled with greater nutrition it is important to use a masticating juicer The preference will be for dual gear, stainless steel auger, models since the enzymes inside the produce might survive longer due to the construction of these devices.
Chris, no solids! If your energy is low have another juice or do your best to relax and recover. Your body is going through change while you juice so it’s best to let it adjust. Sleep if you can. Having a salad won’t hurt you but it can slow down your weight loss a bit.
Hi Donnie! After weeks of occasional visits to your website, my non-vegetable-eating family (two teens, spouse and me) took the plunge and we’ve now been juicing for 5 days. We’re learning our likes/dislikes, and also learning how to tone down the taste of some of the vegetables the kids don’t like. Your advice on the different juice machines and recipes has been invaluable.
Tammy, thank you for your awesome comment. I do my best to help. I’m glad juicing has had a positive effect on you. It does so much more than help us to lose weight. Just keep doing what your doing Tammy, it’s working!
Q: I go to the gym 4 times a week lately I started juicing on a daily basis- mainly vegetables. I noticed I began gaining weight a good bit. I thought juicing helped maintain or reduce weight. What’s wrong?
I fully recommend the belly slimming detox above. But it is important to remember that, you are much more likely to succeed in losing weight if you have a proper juicing plan. This implies having enough fruit or vegetable in place to plan different juicing recipes for the weeks ahead. Take Charge of your health today and lose that excess weight, look great and feel amazing.
If you’re fully committed to your juice cleanse, that means you’ll have had to cut out all caffeine. “Even if you normally drink only one cup a day, eliminating caffeine cold turkey may contribute to headaches, irritability, and difficulty with concentrating,” says nutritionist Amy Shapiro MS, RD, CDN, and founder of RealNutritionNYC.com. Even if you think you’ll have a different sort of energy from your juice, What Happens to Your Body When You Drink Coffee is a different experience.
“Diets like juice cleanses can cause insulin levels to peak and then plummet,” says dentist Dr. Sameer Patel. “Over time, this alters the structure of collagen in the body and therefore affects your gums and the collagen fibers that hold your teeth in place. Not only that, the juice from fruit and vegetables, especially fruit, tend to have a high acid content, which severely damages the enamel of your teeth in a similar way to fizzy drinks [and soda]. Ultimately this can lead to teeth sensitivity as the protective layer of enamel is worn down and eroded by the juice.”
Yes, you may lose some weight right off the bat, but that weight loss is likely to be temporary. “This type of diet isn’t effective for long-term weight management, due to it being too restrictive and low in calories,” says White. To be clear, though, simply drinking juice and not having it be a fast will do the opposite of rapid weight loss: “If juicing is being done in addition to an unchanged routine of diet and a sedentary lifestyle, then it will increase calories and result in weight gain.”
Jessica, I admire your goal of losing 50 pounds. If you stick with it, you’ll lose it much sooner than 8 months. One thing that I can say is just don’t have a cheat meal. Why would you cheat yourself out of your goal Jessica. Go into it 100% and you’ll see results so much sooner than you think. The weight will stay off if you maintain good eating habits and make healthy choices. I’m always here to help Jessica. Keep me posted and know that I’m here for you. I wish you the best! Cheers!
It is also handy to know that green juices taste great! You can make your juice really flavorful by adding in lemon, mint or ginger to really add a tasty punch to your juice. You will enjoy the flavors of the juice so much that you will choose to make a juice rather than eat another less healthy snack food. It is also worth noting that juice you make at home on your own is a much better option than that which is store bought. Fresh juice made with a base of vegetables is going to contain much more nutrition than the kind that comes from a carton. Even fresh, store-bought juices will often have sugars and other additives as well as preservatives added to the juice. This kind of juice means you are drinking a lot of unnecessary calories. On the other hand, a homemade vegetable and fruit juice delivers nothing but goodness that is healthy fuel for your body.
i am starting my juice diet on the 11th April 2014 . i was 16st im now down to just under 15 just through eating more fruit and less fatty foods. ill keep you posted on how i go. looking forward to this challenge.
Tanya Hoffay says “Juicing will always be a part of my life.” Tanya was referred for gastric bypass surgery but decided to start juicing instead. When I interviewed her she had lost 84 pounds – she has now lost 100 pounds.
This juicer produces juice in two steps, using one or two gears. First, it crushes the fruits and veggies, and then it presses out the juice. These types of juicers take longer to produce juice, and they tend to be more expensive than most centrifugal juicers. However, they are said to extract more nutrients from the produce. They yield a thick juice with more pulp, yet still produce some pulp extract in a separate compartment.
Lauren, anything is possible. Shoot for two weeks and see what happens and how much weight you lose. Remember to listen to your body as it’s best to rest and relax during the first 3-5 days of your juice fast. If the workouts are too much then just stop for a while. Let me know if you have any questions.
I am severely overweight and tried dieting and exercising for a month now and only lost 16lbs… I wanted to try juicing but I’m currently reviewing for a local board exam. Would you recommend this lifestyle change if I need to study almost 24/7 for the boards? Thank you.
The problem is that you can’t live on juice forever. You need protein, fiber, and fat in your diet to remain healthy and strong. If you can tolerate the side effects of the detox, than a short fast is a great way to kick start a weight loss program. But keep it to 10 days max, that should be long enough for your body to clean itself out and purge a healthy amount of fat, without you doing any long term damage.

The bottom line is that both the colon cleanse and the quality of water you chose will have a very minimal effect on the weight you lose and the health you gain while on your fast. Both are your choices to make LeeLee. I’m here if you have any questions.
Although I’ve been juicing for some time, I haven’t done a weight loss attempt through just juicing with no solid foods. I’m going to try, though, once I get another juicer to keep at home so I can bring my older juicer to my shop. Having fresh juice for lunch will really help. Right now I just have a centrifugal juicer so if I make it before work, I can’t really keep it fresh until lunchtime.
Losing weight too quickly on a low-calorie juice fast may cause you to lose more water and muscle than fat, and most likely you’ll regain that lost weight. When you restrict your caloric intake to very low levels, your metabolism slows down to conserve energy, making it harder for you to lose weight both during and after your cleanse, according to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Juice fasts may also cause you to feel weak and dizzy.
Hi I have been juicing now for 8 days and lost 11lb already but still have at least 20lb to go. Just had some bad news today and ended up eating things that I shouldn’t as long as I carry on the diet how will my body react to the excess intake an will I put a lot of weight back on again??
A: Hi Larry! Juicing does help most people shed pounds. There are so many factors involved with losing weight. It could be what you are eating besides the juicing that tacks on pounds. It could be lack of sleep or stress and medications…
Suki, you mean like doing a juice fast? Yes, you could, although it might get a little boring having the same juice over and over again! You might want to check out my Juice Feasting 101 eBook for more ideas!
I’m finding the cleanse remarkably easy to follow. The juices taste great and are filling and satisfying. I also made the potassium broth and have that when I want something hot. I’m convinced I need to incorporate juicing into my everyday life.
Laura, it’s perfectly fine to add an apple to each juice in the morning. The 20/80 rule applies to each individual juice. So adding an apple to each juice is just fine. You should include a little fruit in each juice, just make sure not to over do it by making juices that are mostly fruit. Also, you have to take into consideration your goal for juicing. If your goal is to lose weight then you should limit your fruits to the 20/80 rule. Fruits are great for you, but they do contain a lot of sugar. So limiting that sugar will help you to lose that weight.
The new year is a great time to fill your body with great nutrition and set the tone for the year ahead! There are SO MANY things I want to experience and accomplish in 2014 and I know that in order to do all of these amazing things, my body has got to be fueled up and ready to go, go, go!!
The Juice Snacker enjoys freshly squeezed juice with a meal or snack, and occasionally replaces a meal with only juice. This juicer simply likes juice or feels that fresh juice is a healthy addition to their diet on occasion.
Well Donnie, I first started to juice due to the wieght gain because of a curtain med my doc put me on. As time goes on I’m growing to love doing it not just because of the wieght loss but of how I’ve been feeling also. I feel lighter, more energized & happier. So I may continue on my juicing course for some time yet. Thank you again Donnie for all that you’ve done for me but also for every one that you have helped to better themselves!!!
Let’s get real for a second here. Our liver does a lot for our bodies. While it might seem that we’ve drawn a lot of attention to this little organ in our article, it’s because it not only helps you to metabolize a range of substances – but also assists in keeping you slim too.
Paola, congrats on starting your juice fast! It’s an exciting and life changing experience if you stick with it. I met a lady who juiced for over 80 days, and a man who juiced for over 100 days. It’s safe, and it’s okay to do. The main thing you have to understand is that you are getting all of the nutrition you need on a juice fast, even protein. You don’t get insoluble fiber but it’s not necessary and you will get that when you go off of your fast and start eating solids again.
It’s no secret that you will lose weight by juicing. How much weight you lose is up to you. I’ve lost a total of 30 pounds altogether but have known people who have lost upwards of 100 pounds. If you want to lose weight by juicing I strongly recommend you read two very detailed articles I wrote; Juice Cleanse and How to Juice Fast. These will go into detail on how to get started, how to prepare, and what you will need to do in order to lose weight by juicing.
